Panel Discussion with Robert Kraft | Primary Wave

On April 5th, thanks to UM's Music Industry Association and Frost School of Music UM, I had the privilege of moderating a panel discussion featuring an esteemed guest speaker, Robert Kraft! Robert is an award-winning songwriter, film composer, recording artist, record producer and successful executive/entrepreneur whom I had the pleasure of connecting with during my incredible internship this past summer at Primary Wave!

Robert Kraft’s impact on the music industry spans decades, and his work touches nearly every corner of it—from crafting songs for major motion pictures to producing albums and overseeing creative ventures at the highest levels. His unique ability to bridge the gap between artistry and business made him the perfect speaker for a panel focused on navigating today’s music landscape. Moderating this discussion was both an honor and a major learning experience, as it gave me the opportunity to dive deep into the wisdom and perspective of someone who has worn so many hats in the industry.

Throughout the conversation, Robert shared stories that highlighted not only the challenges and triumphs of his career, but also the evolving nature of music and media. He spoke about the importance of adaptability, collaboration, and remaining curious—three themes that deeply resonated with me and many of the students in attendance. Hearing him reflect on his transition from artist to executive, and his commitment to creativity throughout, made me even more excited about pursuing a career in this ever-changing industry.

This event would not have been possible without the support and guidance of Professors Guillermo Page and Serona Elton. From the moment this idea was first discussed, they were incredibly encouraging and helped turn it into a reality. After months of planning and coordination, it was so rewarding to see the event come together and be met with such a great turnout and enthusiastic audience. I’m grateful not only for the trust they placed in me to moderate, but for the ways they continue to foster opportunities for students to connect with leaders in the field.

I’m also immensely thankful to Robert Kraft, Jared Auslander, and the entire Primary Wave team for staying connected and continuing to support interns long after the summer ends. The fact that a connection I made during my internship turned into a meaningful professional relationship—and ultimately led to this panel—is a testament to the power of mentorship and the importance of keeping in touch. Their willingness to show up for students and invest in future industry leaders does not go unnoticed, and I feel so fortunate to have had their support every step of the way.

As I continue to work toward my goal of becoming a music industry professional, opportunities like this remind me why I’m so passionate about this path. Being in a room filled with curious, motivated students, and facilitating a dialogue with someone as accomplished and insightful as Robert Kraft, reaffirmed just how valuable community and shared learning can be. This was truly one of the highlights of my time at the University of Miami so far, and I’m excited to keep growing, learning, and creating alongside others who are just as driven.

Once again, thank you to everyone who made this possible—it’s a day I won’t soon forget!
